Drought-Affected Farmers

Organisers of the Birdsville Big Red Bash will be giving the gift of music to farmers affected by drought.

As part of the Big Red Bash Drought Assistance Initiative, 200 free tickets will be allocated to drought-affected farmers and their families to attend the two-day event on July 5 and 6. Ticket holders will have the chance to see Aussie rock legends Jimmy Barnes, Jon Stevens and Diesel perform in outback Queensland with the stunning Big Red sand dune as the stage backdrop.

Big Run Events CEO Greg Donovan said that the free tickets were a way to support outback communities suffering hardships as a result of the drought.

“Droughts drastically impact the livelihood of farmers, so we wanted a way to give back to those doing it tough in the outback. These tickets give farmers access to some fun and entertainment they may not have been able to access otherwise,” he said.

“We think it’s a great opportunity for communities going through hard times to come together, support one another and enjoy themselves. If people can come out, listen to some good music with their mates and forget about their worries for a couple of nights, we think that’s a really positive thing.”

A 30% discount off the ticket price is also being offered to residents of 12 drought-declared shires in Western Queensland, making the Bash more affordable for them to attend.

In addition to the free and discounted tickets, memorabilia from the 2015 Bash will be auctioned at the event to raise funds for community organisations providing drought assistance at grassroots level.
